F2S One-Pager: Curious about where your food comes from?

Discover the Farm-to-School Connection

PDF includes Spanish translation

Farm-to-school brings the bounty of local farms right into your school!

It's about connecting classrooms, cafeterias, and communities to create a healthier, more sustainable food system.

When a school participates in Farm to School, it:

  • Supports local farmers, creates jobs, and boosts the local economy

  • Increases access to fresh fruits, vegetables, and whole grains, leading to healthier meals and improved student well-being.

  • Fosters collaboration between schools, farmers, and the community, building a stronger support network for students.

  • Promotes students’ exploration of agriculture, health, and nutrition in a fun and engaging way.

What is “local”?

“Local” means as close to school or home as possible, and means your food comes from farms or gardens nearby. Eating local food is like buying from your neighbor!

When food travels a short distance, it’s fresher, tastes better, and helps our planet by using less gas. Plus, supporting local farmers means stronger communities!

So, the next time you eat an apple or carrot, think about where it came from.

If it’s local, give yourself a high-five for helping your community and the environment!
