This series offers current and aspiring vegetable growers the opportunity to learn from the experts about ways to increase the success and satisfaction of quality vegetable production in their gardens.

This series will offer participants a knowledge of tools and techniques that will improve their productivity of quality vegetables. Participants will increase their knowledge of methods which will improve their ability to control pests and diseases while reducing the impact of their operation on the environment. Participants will build a network of vegetable growers, educators and specialists and this program will provide the resources to facilitate their learning well after the conclusion of the series.

  • Soil Preparation Techniques 
  • Raised Beds versus In-Ground 
  • Plant Spacing and Layout 

Session 2 — February 26:
Starting Early and Fresh Produce Safety 

  • Starting Seeds Indoors and Lighting 
  • Weed Management (Prevention Techniques & Cultural Practices) 
  • Food Safety in the Garden

Session 3 — March 5:
Vegetable Varieties 

  • Types/Seasons of Plants 
  • Crop Rotation

Session 4 — March 12:
Disease Management 

  • Diagnosing Plant Problems 
  • Disease Management (Identify, Manage & Prevent) 

Session 5 — March 19:
Pest Management 

  • Insect Management
  • Integrated Pest Management 
  • Organic Pest Management 
  • Pest Identification & Pesticide Use
